The story behind Joy in Every Stitch
I never set out to write a book.
To be honest, I never planned to become a knitter either — so this project is a pretty good reminder that you never really know where life will take you.
I started knitting in January 2020, when a yarn shop called Woolpoint opened in Prague. At the time, I was simply a customer. Today, I’m one of the co-owners — but back in January 2020, I was just someone who completely fell in love with knitting.
I knitted constantly. With every new project, I learned something new, and each one quietly nudged me toward a future I couldn’t yet imagine.
Over time, I began adjusting existing patterns to suit my own needs, and from there it was only a small step toward designing my own. Then, quite unexpectedly, I was approached by the publishing house Mystery Press — a company I already worked with as a freelance translator — and asked whether I would consider creating an entire knitting book.
That was the moment the idea truly came to life.
I already had many designs in mind that I wanted to develop, so I dove in — and slowly, stitch by stitch, Joy in Every Stitch began to take shape.
It was an intense, beautiful ride. Behind this book stands the work of so many talented people, and the process taught me more than I could have imagined. I lived with this book for an entire year, and I’m certain it will always remain one of the most formative periods of my life.
Not bad for someone who was once told she had two left hands.
